Application file:

"Der große Kulturfahrplan" (The Timetables of History: A Horizontal Linkage of People and Events)
is an interactive Eenzyklopedia from prehistoric times to present.

Compatibility:

This is a hybrid CD-ROM for PC & Mac in German.

System requirements Mac:
PowerPC, 16 MB of RAM.

System requirements PC:
Pentium 75 MHz, Windows 3.1/95/95 (Windows 3.1 with Win32s), sound card,
16 MB of RAM (32 MB recommended)

Common requirements:
3 MB of hard disk space, 4x CD-ROM drive, QuickTime 16-bit.

This is a translation of the README.WRI file found on the PC partition of the CD-ROM:
1. The font "Kulturfahrplan":
Virus scanners or other TSR application may prevent to set up the font "Kulturfahrplan" automaticaly by the application. As a result, the special characters can't be displayed correctly and the line break does not look correctly. You can install the missing font manually:

When using Windows 3.x :
In the Main Group/System Settings, run the Font Manager application. By using "Add", select the font "Kulturfahrplan" found on the CD-ROM in the folder "Dfont" and click "OK". Restart Windows and the "Chronik der Weltgeschichte" displays the text on the screen correctly.

When using Windows 95/98
Open by using "Start/Settings/System Settings" the Font Manager application. Use "File/New Fonts" to install the font "Kulturfahrplan" found on the CD-ROM in the folder "Dfont".
Under certain circumstances, you must delete the font again, up to 2 times). Then, the special characters and the line break whithin the "Chronik der Weltgeschichte" will be displayed correctly.

2. QuickTime

To display pictures and show movies, "Chronik der Weltgeschichte" required a 16-bit version of QuickTime. This will be optionally installed by the Setup application. In case a 32-bit version is already installed (2.1.2.59 or 3.0+), the "Chronik der Weltgeschichte" requires to each case a 16-bit Version of QuickTime. It can co-exist with a 32-bit version of QuickTime.
To prevent conflicts between driver software of a few graphics card and QuickTime, "Chronik der Weltgeschichte" will alter the configuration file of QuickTime, "QTW.INI", with the line "Optimize=BMP".

Application file:

A telnet terminal application for a classic Mac OS, incorporating the SSH secure shell protocol. Based on NiftyTelnet 1.1 by Chris Newman.

NiftyTelnet 1.1 SSH home page: http://www.lysator.liu.se/~jonasw/freeware/.

    What is NiftyTelnet 1.1 SSH?

It is a modified version of NiftyTelnet 1.1 where support for the SSH (Secure Shell) protocol has been incorporated. SSH is the de-facto standard for secure terminal sessions in the Unix world, and it's now available for free to the Macintosh community as well.

Compatibility:

Combined as a FAT binary compatible & native for 68k & PPC Macintosh.
So far only tested as working OK by this author, on Basilisk II (68040/Mac OS 7.6.1).

Ignore notices in this app's ReadMe files warning that US citizens are not allowed to DL this software legally. About one year after NiftyTelnet 1.1 SSH r3 was released:

On September 6, 2000, RSA Data Security, Inc. put the RSA public-key encryption algorithm into the public domain, meaning that United States users can download and use NiftyTelnet SSH legally. This was done two weeks before the expiration of their patent granted in 1983.

AudioCatalyst is the first commercial audio CD to MP3 ripper and encoder available for the Macintosh. It is based on Oliver Dreer's MPEG Audio Creator, and combines his ripper with Xing's MP3 Encoder to bring you one of the fastest and most complete MP3 creation products anywhere.

As is implied above, AudioCatalyst for Macintosh is *not* a port of our PC product, though it shares most of the same features and the same basic encoding engine.

Compatibility:

Minimum requirements for v2.0.1
OS 7.5.5, Open Transport 1.1.1 for CDDB access.
v2.1 need OS 8 to OS 9.2.2

OzTex 4

OzTeX is a Macintosh implementation of Donald Knuth's typesetting system. OzTeX 4.0 was released in September 1999.

The 1st download is the OzTeX 4.0 with some additions and corrections from the German TeX user club DANTE.
The 2nd download is an archive with some additions from the German TeX user club DANTE for OzTeX 4.0.
The 3rd download is PDFTeX for OzTeX 4.

Compatibility:

OzTeX, OzMF and OzMP run on all Macintosh models from a Mac Plus to a Power Mac (in native mode) and under all System versions from 6.0 up (System 7 or later is preferred). OzTtH requires a PowerPC Mac.

As distributed, the preferred memory sizes for all Oz* apps add up to about 9Mb (or about 11Mb on a Power Mac with virtual memory turned off). However, you should only need two of the applications running at any given time.

A typical OzTeX system uses anywhere from 15 to 100Mb of disk space, depending on the block size of your disk and how many extras you want. A minimal OzTeX system could probably squeeze in under 15Mb if you only want to run TeX and print/preview the occasional document. The final section discusses how to set up such a system.
